Richard Burton - Founder & Director

Richard’s working life has explored ways of improving the diet of individuals and society as a whole: as researcher, lecturer; consultant to the pharmaceutical industry on dietary fibre; science writer; health journalist; manager of wholefood company; teacher and consultant nutritionist at London’s Community Health Foundation; weight management consultant; nutritional therapist. Richard’s therapeutic approach has achieved successful outcomes for thousands of clients. His knowledge of Chinese Medicine enriches his teaching and counselling skills. He is principle tutor for the Nutrition & Health Coaching programme in year 1.

Medical Doctor and Nutrition Consultant

Dr David Smallbone - Medical Doctor & Nutrition ConsultantDr David Smallbone is a medical doctor, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences, a Member of the Faculty of Homoeopathy and a Fellow of the College of Healing.
After becoming aware of the significance of good food in the maintenance of good health, Dr Smallbone began a detailed clinical and scientific study of the role played by nutrition in disease and health. In recent years most of his consulting time has been devoted to advising patients and companies on nutritional matters.
Dr Smallbone is Head of Academic Studies at IINH and is an active member of the teaching staff, particularly in years 2 and 3 of the Diploma Programme.

Dr Smallbone is currently President of the Food & Health Section of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK). He was recently appointed as external examiner for Middlesex University.

Julia Sweetman BA (Hons), DipNT, mNTOI, mNRRI

Nutritional Therapist, Reflexologist

Julia Sweetman - Nutritional Therapist &  ReflexologistJulia is a Nutritional Therapist who operates a private practice in Bray, Co Wicklow. She has a BA (Hons) degree in Business and had a successful career as a Senior Manager for a large Health and Beauty Retailer. She trained as a Nutritional Therapist after personal experience of the positive impact of food and nutrition in overcoming a serious illness. She is a committee member of the Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI), the professional body representing Nutritional Therapists. She is also a qualified Reflexologist and a member of the National Register of Reflexologists in Ireland.

Samantha Lewis BSc Hons, DipNT, MBANT, MNTOI, NTC

Samantha Lewis BSc Hons, DipNT, MBANT, MNTOI, NTC - Nutritional TherapistSam graduated from Brunel University, London with a BSc Hons in Medicinal Chemistry and spent over 15 years working in Pharmaceutical Clinical Research, in the areas of Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes, before training as a Nutritional Therapist.
Based on personal and professional experience, Sam’s philosophy is that prevention is better than cure and she is passionate about the impact good nutrition can have on one’s health and quality of life. Sam teaches the Science modules such as Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Research Methodology in Year 2 and 3 of the program together with Nutritional Therapy modules.

Sam runs a private practice in Drogheda, and her areas of expertise are digestive disorders and food intolerances, autoimmune disease, female hormone imbalances/infertility (Foresight Preconception trained) and diabetes/CVD.
Sam is also an active, voluntary committee member for the Nutritional Therapists of Ireland and is responsible for organising CPD events in Ireland.

Joan Hanrahan BSc (Hons Nutritional Therapy) MBANT, DipHM, MNIMH

Joan Hanrahan - Nutritional Therapist & HerbalistJoan runs a busy practice in nutritional therapy and herbal medicine in Dalkey, where she combines nutritional support with medicinal herbs to optimise healing. Her teaching emphasises nutritional and naturopathic approaches to chronic diseases, and her clinical experience is a valuable resource for students. She is an expert on the digestive system and its relation to immunity, and the interconnectedness of body systems.

Karen Ward

With an honours science degree from UCD, Karen now works as a holistic psychotherapist, stress management counsellor and energy therapist from her clinic in Smithfield, Dublin. She is an established lecturer and facilitator of motivational and inspiring talks on a variety of holistic health subjects. Karen and her husband, John Cantwell, teach and run a school of shamanism (holistic living) called ‘Slí an Chroí ‘. She treats all her treasured clients from a mind, body, spirit and energetic perspective.

Jo Sayers

Bernadette Rogers

With a background in training of over 20 years Bernie worked with ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) and then moved to work within the community and voluntary sector, working with the National Youth Council of Ireland and later Credit Unions, before setting up her own training business. She has a National Diploma in Business Studies Training and Development with the College of Commerce (Rathmines, now DIT) and the National University of Ireland’s Certificate in Training and Education. Bernie is a FÁS registered trainer and a member of the Irish Institute of Training and Development (IITD) since 1994. Bernie is also an NLP Master Practitioner, INLPTA NLP Trainer and NLP Coach.

Bernie provides training and facilitation within the community, voluntary and small business sector, with courses that are active, interactive and fun. She works with both groups and individuals to enable them to achieve their outcomes in an atmosphere where they take the lead role and responsibility for their input and learning. This environment is one which enables practical application of knowledge, skills and experiences in their work and personal lives outside the training environment.
