EDEXCEL (‘Educational Excellence’) is the UK’s largest awarding body, offering academic and vocational qualifications and testing throughout the UK and internationally, including Ireland.

Edexcel’s learning programmes range from academic qualifications such as the ‘gold standard’ GCEs (A levels) and GCSEs, to vocational and business qualifications serving a broad spectrum of sectors and interests.

In 2008, Edexcel delivered 8.2 million exam scripts in over 85 countries. Edexcel’s international qualifications portfolio includes GCSEs, AS and A Levels,  IGCSEs and O Levels. Vocational qualifications include NVQ and BTEC programmes from entry level to Higher National Diploma.

BTECs are vocational/work-related qualifications exclusively offered by Edexcel for over 25 years. BTECs provide a more practical,  real-world approach to learning and skills development alongside a key theoretical background. BTECs range from Entry Level to Level 8 (PhD equivalent) on the UK National Qualifications Framework (NQF). They are developed in consultation with industry and professionals, with the aim of being relevant, progressive and recognised by professional bodies, employers and universities. BTECs are becoming popular with schools and are gaining high acceptance by employers. A BTEC Level 3 Advanced Diploma is equivalent to 3.5 A-levels.

Over a million learners registered for BTECs and other vocational qualifications in 2007-08 and over 100,000 BTEC students progressed to higher education in 2010.

IINH is registered with FETAC to offer programmes leading to FETAC awards in the National Framework of Qualifications.
