We’re delighted to announce that our nutritional therapy student clinic reopens September 20th. But what exactly happens during a consult and do you even need one? This blog post aims to provide you with some guidance. If you’d like to book an appointment, you can fill out the student clinic form here.
What is Nutritional Therapy?
At IINH, you’ll note that we offer two core programmes; nutrition & health coaching and nutritional therapy. The latter, Nutritional Therapy, is a personalised holistic approach that takes a deeper dive into nutrition and teaches practitioners to help clients restore and maintain good health through whole foods, phytonutrients and lifestyle changes. The programme is 3.5 years long and on completion NT graduates receive a UK level 6 (on par to BSc) award: Crossfields Institute Diploma in Nutritional Science and Therapeutics. As part of this programme, students complete 6 months of clinical practice in our on-site clinic at IINH which includes functional testing. Here, they work with genuine clients, supervised by our expert tutors.
IINH Nutritional Therapy Student Clinic
As mentioned above, we run a Nutritional Therapy Student Clinic at IINH. The clinic available to anyone and follows a set structure whereby a student will work with a client on their nutrition and wellness goals under strict supervision by one of our expert tutors. So you still get access to expert knowledge and advice you need.
How does it work?
Prior to your first appointment, you will be asked to complete a comprehensive questionnaire and food diary.
Next, the student therapist will spend around 45mins asking you questions relating to your diet, lifestyle, health history, etc.
You will then be asked to sit in the waiting area for about 25 minutes whilst the student discusses their findings with the supervisor.
During the second half of the consultation, the therapist will give you personalised nutrition, supplement and lifestyle recommendations which will also include menu ideas. He/she might also discuss functional testing with you. This is a two-way conversation whereby the Student Therapist and client discuss and agree on a programme of dietary and lifestyle recommendations based on the client’s unique needs and their personal preferences and circumstances.
Nutritional Therapy Student Clinic – Follow Ups
We will ask you to return for a follow up in around 4-6 weeks time following the initial consult. The purpose of this is to monitor progress and make any adjustments that might be necessary. There may be a requirement for further follow-ups but this will depend on the individual.
How long does it take?
The initial consultation will take up to 2 hours. Follow up consultations will take approx 1.5 hours.
