Phoebe Webb is a qualified Nutrition and Health Coach helping time poor women in business take control of their diet and lifestyle so they can thrive in work and in life!
When did you first become interested in nutrition and health?
I suppose I have always had some interest in it, my family are quite alternative and health conscious, and so I grew up with some knowledge around food and functional medicine. I also grew up in West Cork, which is known around the world for its good food, so it was always kind of there in the background, but I didn’t really start taking it seriously until a few years ago.
So what made you decide to study with IINH?
I had previously started my own e-commerce business, which I ran for 2 years while working a day job and freelancing as well. Inevitably I hit burnout and closed that business, quit the job, and continued to do small amounts of freelance work while I tried to figure out what I was going to do next. Because I had a lot more free time on my hands I started cooking and baking more, going for walks and listening to podcasts which happened to mostly all be about health and wellness.
I was on a freelance job and I was talking to a woman I was working with about one of the podcasts that I had been listening to and I mentioned that it would be interesting to study health and nutrition but I didn’t know where to go. She told me her friend had recently studied with IINH, so after work I looked them up and I fell in love with the course straight away.
You run your own business, Phoebe Webb Nutrition. Tell us a bit about that.
I set up Phoebe Webb Nutrition quite soon after I had finished my studies with IINH. It was during the pandemic last year, and so I had a bit of time on my hands to get it going. I had been working on building a presence on social media during my studies, so when I finished I announced that I was now looking to take on some clients and straight away I had people in my inbox wanting to work with me which was great. Because of my experience with working myself to the ground and experiencing chronic stress and ultimately burnout I wanted to help high performers like me to prevent burnout and become their best selves by optimising their health and well-being (something I didn’t do when I was running my first business!)
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I love making connections with people and seeing their transformations. It’s amazing to see and hear about how I’ve helped someone with an issue they’ve had for a while. I love getting people interested in their health and well-being, for them to take it seriously and start putting it as a priority. It really does make such a huge difference to your life. A lot of people who come to me say that they have lost themselves, and it’s nice to be able to help guide them on that journey of self discovery.
From your experience working with clients, do you feel that nutrition and health is well understood? What simple advice would you give people?
Most people I speak to say “I know what I should be doing, I’m just not doing it”, so I think a lot of people do have some sort of knowledge around health and nutrition but I think they get a bit confused as to where they should begin. There is a lot of information out there, one study will tell you something is good, and another study will tell you it’s bad, it can be very confusing for people. When I work with someone it’s all about personalised nutrition, which simplifies everything for the client and gives them a clear guide and direction to move forward with.
I have had great feedback from clients who say they love knowing why they should be eating certain foods, or moving in a certain way, or practicing relaxation techniques. Once I have explained the reasoning behind these things it’s easy for them to understand and they start making good conscious decisions that they now know will benefit them. The funny thing is that a lot of my advice is simple, but when it’s done consistently it can make a huge difference to my clients life.
We all know we should be drinking more water and getting more sleep, but how many of us actually do it? From my experience with working with clients so far, not a lot of us do these basic things. I always encourage people to get the basics right, to lay the foundation they need to build upon.
What is your personal nutrition philosophy?
I believe that when you start looking after yourself, you start looking after everyone and everything else much better. The clients I work with are usually women who have a young family and who either run their own business or they’ve got a high demanding job. They instinctively put their family and the job before their own needs. Usually when I speak to someone they’re at a point where they know they cannot keep going the way they are and so we start putting them first, and guess what? As a result of this they start being more present for their family and they start doing better in their job.
And what advice would you give to someone who is interested in living a healthier lifestyle?
Start small, and be consistent. Start with one simple thing. Maybe that’s committing to drinking some water in the mornings before your coffee. Maybe it’s going to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual. Maybe it’s going for a walk after dinner in the evenings instead of watching TV. Start with one thing, be consistent with it, nail it, and then start adding more things as you go along. Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing, do what suits you and your life. Focus on eating more whole foods and less processed and sugary foods. Get more movement into your day. Know that resting is productive, practice the art of relaxing.
