Smart Eating for Perimenopause: A Nutrition & Lifestyle Guide

ACHIEVING OPTIMAL HEALTH THROUGH PERIMENOPAUSE

Are you experiencing the mysterious changes in your body that come with perimenopause?

Perimenopause is a pivotal phase in a woman’s life, leading up to menopause. It’s a period characterised by fluctuating hormones and a diverse range of symptoms, and it can be a unique journey for each woman. With a duration spanning from 2 to 10 years, the onset of perimenopause can begin as early as a woman’s 30s or 40s.

Our Perimenopause Nutrition Course is your comprehensive guide to this transformative phase. We delve into the intricate workings of hormonal changes during perimenopause, demystify the symptoms associated with each stage, and explain the underlying reasons behind them. This course illuminates the profound effects of diminishing hormones on blood sugar management, the immune system, and digestive health. It underscores the paramount importance of effective stress management, the role of physical activity, and the significance of thyroid function during perimenopause.

Our aim is to empower women during this life stage by offering invaluable insights, practical tips, and expert advice on nutrition and lifestyle adjustments. This course is tailored not only for health coaches and nutrition advisors but also for women seeking a deeper understanding of how perimenopause affects their bodies and what proactive steps they can take to support themselves. Highlights include a masterclass with Richard Burton on the significance of healthy fats, an informative discussion on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) with Dr. Christine Ritter, and strategies to adapt your exercise regimen to the changing needs of perimenopause.

Course Outline

  • Difference between menopause and perimenopause
  • Signs and symptoms
  • Basic science explaining how your menstrual cycle works
  • What happens to your hormones during menopause.

Understanding how certain factors impact you during this period can help to recognise what is happening to your body and how to support yourself during this phase. This module covers:

  • THE STRESS CONNECTION
  • BLOOD SUGAR BALANCING
  • THE ‘GUT’ CONNECTION
  • THE THYROID CONNECTION
  • AN ALTERED IMMUNE SYSTEM
  • HORMONE REGULATION

We’ll cover the dietary recommendations in this unit. Some of these factors will help to improve the production and use of our hormones in order to maintain that monthly cycle for as long as possible.

In this section, there is also lots of information on foods that support your hormone balance, such as phytoestrogens, omega 3, probiotic foods and ideas such as seed cycling.

In this module we discuss:

  • BLOOD SUGAR BALANCING
  • COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATE
  • HEALTHY FATS MASTERCLASS WITH RICHARD BURTON
  • SOURCES OF PROTEIN
  • HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
  • FOODS TO SUPPORT YOUR HORMONE BALANCE
  • HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM AND GUT FLORA

In this unit, we will focus on lifestyle factors and reducing their impact on female hormones within our reproductive years, for example, managing blood sugar swings, reducing stimulants, alcohol and stress, increasing exercise and sleep.

This module covers:

  • REDUCE YOUR STRESS

  • INCORPORATE THE RIGHT KIND OF EXERCISE

  • RETHINKING EXERCISE WHEN PERIMENOPAUSE HAS MADE IT DIFFICULT.

  • IMPROVING YOUR SLEEP

  • BLOOD TESTS

While there are some key nutrients to consider in perimenopause, it’s worth noting that supplements are always intended as an adjunct to diet in order to make up for potential deficiencies. The reason for deficiencies should be identified and rectified, if feasible. In this module we identify some common deficiencies in perimenopause and possible causes.

HRT – This section also includes a discussion and information on HRT with Dr. Christine Ritter.
