Smart Eating For Infants & Children - NOURISHING FUTURE GENERATIONS
The importance of early childhood nutrition
In this early childhood nutrition short course, Ciara and Colette provide comprehensive, expert knowledge on nourishing infants from birth through childhood, up to age 11.
This course is aimed at parents or caregivers who want to learn more and build their confidence around how they nourish babies and young children. It is also for healthcare professionals and nutrition & health coaches who would like to work more in the area of childhood nutrition, supporting parents and caregivers.
Many parents or caregivers can find themselves overwhelmed by the amount of information available, for example, on how to introduce food to their babies. In addition, some of this information is contradictory or lacks scientific basis or may be impractical. We rightly worry if we are providing our children with the right fuel to optimise their development, and if we are ensuring our children have a healthy relationship with food in the long-term.
A varied diet has been shown to be very important for childrens’ development to ensure they receive the full range of nutrients they need at such a crucial stage of life, particularly for their gut health which impacts on all aspects of their well-being. It is important to ensure children have healthy eating habits for many reasons; including preventing a limited diet. Limited eating like this can persist over time (which may not be just a phase) or get worse over time; with many negative consequences including for the entire family.
In this course, we provide information on several approaches to childhood nutrition, highlighting the positive take- aways from each, allowing the parent to choose what they feel suits their family best.
We touch on science and research, and present practical and useful guides. These are aimed at extending your knowledge and building your confidence around not only foods but also eating behaviours- including how we feed our children to ensure they eat a balanced varied diet, and eat like the rest of the family.
